Let's Go Exploring
Boy Meets World, Dawson's Creek, Friends and How I Met Your Mother. I would be lying if I didn't spend a large chunk of my adolescence watching TV (except Dawson's Creek, I just added it as a reference). Whether it was Cory and Topanga, Ross and Rachel, or Marshall and Lily, these shows always had THAT couple, you know, the one that despite trials and tribulations, would stand the test of time. Truth was, I always thought that couples like that didn't exist in real life, until I met Bryan and Jefer.
To say that I've had the distinct pleasure of knowing Bryan and Jefer, both as individuals and as a couple, would be an understatement. I met Jefer in the fall of 2002 in our Calculus class and Bryan shortly after when they got together. From the moment you meet Jefer, you knew how kind, gentle and generous she was. Bryan on the other hand, well... let's just say his sense of humor is one of his strongest qualities (among many, MANY others). But together, they are nothing short of amazing and throughout the years I've gotten to know them, I can honestly say they are simply beautiful human beings. Their love is the type of love you hope to find one day.
When I started shooting photography, I dreamed of the day that I would get the chance to shoot them. Although we had a pseudo-photoshoot back in 2012 that was inadvertently mistaken as an engagement shoot thanks to social media, I've never formally shot them. You could only imagine the glee across my face when Jefer contacted me about their engagement shoot. This was the email I've been waiting 5 years for! If you could rate my excitement on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being witnessing the birth of my first newborn (or not), I was probably a 11. I could not contain my excitement.
Much like Calvin and Hobbes, Bryan and Jefer's relationship has been always been an adventure. From their roots on the west coast to the beginning of their professional life on the east coast, they have been courageous, leaving the comforts of California in pursuits of their careers. Now both lawyers, they reside in their humble abode on the Upper Westside of Manhattan with their most lovable dog, Sadie (read: the only dog I will ever love). For their engagement shoot, they wanted to pay tribute to Calvin and Hobbes and embody their sense of exploration and what follows is their adventure.
Let's go exploring!
*I would be remiss if I didn't give a special thanks to Donna for her assistance, creative vision and presence. Without you, this shoot would not have been possible. I'm thankful that you were by my side, every step of the way. And to Bryan and Jefer, I hope this adequately captures your life in NYC. Here's to more adventures
