500 Days of Angie

When I came home from work one day, my older brother Pete asked me if he could borrow one of my cameras and a tripod. I readily agreed and asked him what he needed it for. He mentioned he needed it for a project. I shrugged, handed him one of my cameras and didn't pay it any mind. The next day, I would return home to find Pete sitting on the front porch with a notepad, camera and tripod armed and ready, taking repeated "selfies" of himself. Later I discovered that this wasn't one of his class projects but a personal project for Angie, appropriately titled 500 Day of Angie. Using a collection of photos they've taken thus far, Pete designed a photo collage to commemorate their first 500 days together. Unsurprisingly, Angie found it very endearing but what she didn't realize at the time was that Pete wasn't just sitting idly on the porch taking a selfie - he was sketching the rest of his life with Angie.

Like a page from Pixar's UP, over the next three years, Pete and Angie were inseparable. If she needed to study for nursing school, Pete was never more than an arm's length away. If they were traveling around the country to SF, NYC or Chicago, he would be by her side, hand-in-hand. If a new bakery opened up in LA offering almond croissants, he would be with her, first in line. Much like Carl and Ellie, they were beginning to fill the pages of their Adventure Book. Pete knew that when it came to Angie, "adventure was out there."

For the past year, Pete has poured his heart into bringing Angie's dreams to fruition. From the fairytale proposal in front of the Cinderella castle at Disneyland to handcrafting the lanterns from Tangled to illuminate their First Dance together, Pete meticulously crafted each facet of his engagement and wedding. Photo booth props? Hand photoshopped Disney icons. Table center pieces? The rose from Beauty and the Beast. Pre-wedding Disney movie? Wreck-It-Ralph. I don't think I've ever seen Pete this dedicated in any endeavor but I would wager that this is a testament to how much he cares for Angie.

Standing in the aisle of the ceremony, I watched proudly as my older brother - donning the highest honor of any Wilderness Explorer, the Ellie badge - pronounce his vows to his real life "Ellie." I couldn't be more ecstatic to finally be able to call Angie my sister-in-law! Welcome to the family and here's to a lifetime of joy, laughter and adventures! To Infinity and Beyond!
